Dr. Wendy Thai is an experienced intellectual property attorney whose practice is focused on working with public universities, private research institutions, independent inventors, as well as large and small companies to develop patent protection for inventions that have agricultural, industrial, and medical diagnostic or therapeutic applications.
Wendy also assists clients who are developing new products by providing third party patent evaluations including development of freedom-to-operate positions, invalidity and/or non-infringement opinions, and competitive patent landscapes.
Wendy has managed technologies in a variety of areas including agricultural biotechnology, industrial biotechnology and fermentation, industrial chemicals, immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, mammalian cell biology, molecular diagnostics, medical biotechnology, medical or surgical devices and tools, pharmaceuticals and bio-pharmaceuticals, as well as consumer products.
Wendy has spoken on various patent topics before business organizations as well as entrepreneur and independent inventor groups including the Champaign County Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois Small Business Development Center at the Champaign County Economic Development Corporation, and the Illinois entrepreneurship & Small business Growth Association. Her articles have appeared in The Minnesota Journal of Law, Science and Technology and in Microbiology.
Wendy is a graduate of The University of Minnesota Law School and was a Managing Editor of the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology
. She was a post-doctoral fellow in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Alberta in Canada.
